What is Sisu?
Sisu is endurance, resilience, tenacity, determination, and perseverance. Sisu stands for the philosophy that what must be done will be done, regardless of what it takes. Sisu is a special strength and persistent determination and resolve to continue and overcome in the moment of adversity…an almost magical quality, a combination of stamina, perseverance, courage, and determination held in reserve for hard times. Sisu is what our community was built on and what will sustain us in the future.

It’s been an exciting year for Finlandia Village and the Sisu: Assisted Living for Sudbury Seniors Capital Campaign.We started out late last September with a health care crisis in our community, an identified solution, and a fundraising goal of $3 million. In the months that followed we took our message to hundreds of people – from politicians and those who provide funding and services, to seniors in our own community who are in desperate need of affordable, quality care.
Now, a year later, we have not only surpassed that goal, in the process we have introduced a community to Finlandia Village - a magical place in Minnow Lake where the health, safety and quality of life of our seniors is the benchmark for senior care in the country…and probably the world.
The Sisu: Assisted Living for Sudbury’s Seniors Capital Campaign Leadership Team wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the many organizations, families and individuals who made donations to make our vision of affordable assisted living for seniors a reality. Your generous contributions are a commitment to the importance of strengthening our community and building bridges across cultures, generations and circumstances by coming together in the spirit of Sisu.
